The white ant termite is a common species of insect that can be found in many parts of the world. These termites are known for their white coloration, which can make them difficult to spot in certain environments. White ant termites are a type of social insect, and they live in colonies that can number in the tens of thousands of individuals. These insects are important members of many ecosystems, and they play a vital role in the decomposition process.
Termite is widely distributed. In the nursery, this pest attacks the plant from the time of seed germination that of transplanting. Much of the subsequent termite, attack on transplants is due to injury to the roots at the time of lifting. Termites first attack the dead root can continue to feed living tissue when the resistance of the plant is lowered. Attacking a young plant show the outer leaves drying up, which could be easily removed at this stage.
The total weight of all the ants in the world is the same, if not larger than all humans added together.
1. Ants are capable of carrying objects 50 times their own body weight with their mandibles.
2. Ants communicate and cooperate by using pheromones that can alert others to danger or lead them to a promising food source.
3. Foraging worker ants can travel up to 200 metres from their nest and find their way back to the colony by following scent trails left by others.
4. Ants evolved from wasp-like ancestors in the dinosaur period between 110 and 130 million years ago.
5. Ants can survive underwater for 24 hours.
6. Ants belong to the insect order Hymenoptera. They are close relatives of bees and wasps.
7. Each colony can hold up to half a million ants. They can all get up and go very quickly if the colony is threatened.
8. Worker ants can live for up to 7 years, while a queen can live for up to 15 years.

Negative impacts of ants infestation

1. Food poisoning : ants can contaminate food because you don’t know where they’ve been foraging before crawling over your food.

2. Nasty bites : ant bites though harmless, can be itchy and causes discomfort.

3. Reputation : having an ant infestation in business premises can be unsightly to customers.

4. Business losses : compromised health and hygiene can lead to lost trading revenue in food related business.
